I'm In my first flush of GT ownership and just did a trip up to see my mum in edinburgh.
444 very comfortable and enjoyable miles and then a trip from edinburgh to Oban on the A85
including there and back estimated around 1200 miles with not a problem, the cruise control really makes a difference on those long journeys.
thoughts so far in my first 3 months of ownership...
looks are unrivaled IMO and the handling is up there as well, I am really enjoying the 2.0 JTS engine despite some of the comments I have read, I did originally go looking for a brera but now genuinely think the bertone designed GT is the nicer looking car.
I prefer the JTS to the slightly more rev happy 1.8 ts backline I tried but maybe the JTDM would have been a better choice given my weekly mileage, but I coudn't bring myself to buy my very very first alfa in diesel guise!.
I can see me trading in for the 3.2 at some point in the future, nonsenical I know but the 3.2 I tried has taken root and I will have one at some point.
the oil consumption does take some getting used to but once you understand the way the engine is designed it makes sense, mine is running on 10w/60 and uses around a litre per 1000 miles, within tolerance for the JTS from what I understand, this is probably the reason alfas have such a bad rep, ill informed owners who are used to driving a honda or a volkswagen where they peer under the bonnet at christmas and birthdays!.
alfas are drivers cars and are more than adequate for daily use, if the oil, coolant and servicing are adhered to as per the manual.
since owning I have replaced the front flexi pipe on the exhaust (found the link for the cheap part on here) but could hear this was a problem on the test drive, but loved the overall condition and could find no other issues to concern me.
did it myself so the cost of the only expense. £40..!
with 31k on the clock for a moon blue 2005 plate with a FSH including very recent cambelt it has proven to be a good choice.
interior is truly a nice place to be, I have the light grey leather and am reminded of far more expensive cars, in fact my GT for me is like having something like a maserati 3200 that i can drive every day and won't kill me or my pocket!.
I just completed an oil service and have found eurocarparts own brand triple qx to be more than adequate. and at £32 for 5l I can afford oil canges every 6k and top ups as required with the correct oil.
mann filter was £5.
my first of two niggles is the turning circlase is a bit well...big! and with the small rear window its not the easiest to park but the drive more than makes up for it,
that said I will probably fit rear sensors at some point in the future.
the only other small niggle is the tramlining and torque steer with the 18's but they look so nice I will keep them, despite the fact that th 17's would be a far superior ride in terms of both comfort and handling.
overall I am an alfa convert and the only problem I have is what do I replace my GT with when the time comes?.
with the mileage I do that will be around 3-4 years so i'm hoping I will be able to find a nice 3.2 from the last year of production with low mileage
i'm already excited.
