The OP seems to be more concerned that the issue he experienced was loss of power, the car was nursed home. Following recovery the garage called to say timing belt had gone, if this were the case no amount of nursing would have got the car home.
Tricky situation, how would one prove there was nothing wrong with the timing belt prior to recovery?
I certainly have little advice, if the car's sitting in a garage with a busted timing belt there ain't much you can do other than pay the man to fix it, take it away 'as is' paying any charges so far incurred, then either scrap it, break it or fix it yourself.
Cruel world innit?
Loose - not close, compact, or tight in structure or arrangement
Lose - to part with or come to be without, as through theft, accident, negligence, etc.
