getting started with OBD2
Hi, just purchased my first Alfa (2001 147 Selespeed) and i picked it up with an existing problem to the gearbox, knowing full well about it, but i picked it up for peanuts so im not complaining. The problem is that going into 3rd, it will crunch the gears, same as leaving 3 when going to 4 or 2. Other than that, it dives fine.
What i want to do straight away is connect my computer to the ECU and look through all the fault codes and diagnose it myself. My other car is a MK5 GOLF GTI and i have a Rosstech cable for that and know my way around VCDS software. However, i cant seem to figure out what i need to do with this Alfa.
I want to check the actuator rod but it looks like i need this working first before i go any further.
I have done a search but most posts are from 2010 and refer to alfadiag and other software that doesnt seem to be available.
So my questions are simple, and i apologise if already discussed but i did look, maybe i need some searching skills...
1. What software do i need to download? paid/free i dont care
2. what cable do i need? (i ask what cable because the website at multiecuscan confused me even further)
I connected my Rosstech cable to the Alfa and fired up MultiECUScan and it didnt even recognise that i had a cable plugged in...so any help would be greatly appreciated.
