ABS,handbrake and speedo on 156
Just discovered this forum and am so relieved to read such helpful posts. Maybe someone can shed some light on my personal problem (car-related, that is!). I have a '99 156 2.0 Twinspark, and just over a week ago (Yes, Friday 13th) the handbrake/fluid level warning light suddenly came on, followed by the ABS warning light. The ABS light was glowing dimly, but came brighter when the brakes were applied, and, driving home gingerly, I then noticed the speedo had stopped operating.
As I'm temporarily staying with relatives, I checked out the local Service Agent and drove down there on Saturday am., to find that the problem had rectified itself. Turned round and went halfway home, amd the lights were on again and the speedo stopped.
Returned to the Alfa Agency, who were unable to get their Examiner to communicate with my car. Back on Wednesday for 4 hours with the same conclusion, but 'we could replace the ABS pump for you for £850'. Why, if you don't know what's wrong? At least there was no charge for them wasting my time and theirs.
Has anyone met this combination of faults previously, or has any pointers? The faults disappear overnight, then reappear after 10 mins driving!
