Problem with front suspension

I bought a 156 2.0 JTS SW a couple of months ago, and I'm very happy with it. It's been taken care of as far as I can see, with stamps in the service book and so on.

But the suspensions seems like it has given up. At first I thought the car was sagging at the back, but after measuring the gap between wheel and arch before and after I've driven I've concluded that the self-leveling seems to work.

So the lean of the car has to be contributed to the front suspension being wrong. The gap seems a tad to large between wheel and arch in the front.

I'm wondering, what part is most likely wrong, is it a common fault, what parts do I need to buy and is it hard to fix by yourself?

Regards, Christian

PS: Please excuse the horrible pictures. It was dark and I wasn't in the best of moods :-)
