selespeed paddles... worn out? heres the fix!
i know a few of you have had problems with your selespeed paddles failing to work or only working on the bottom half.. well heres a little tip for you all...
firstly you will need a medium phillips screwdriver and some electrical tape...
remove the buttons by taking out the ONE screw that holds the paddle and its black back plate to the wheel... you may need to give it a little wiggle to come out but it does i promise.
be careful you dont pull the wires too hard!
once its off the wheel you can use a knife (i used the car key) to prise the paddle bit off the black plate, its a bit fidgety but take your time and it comes right off, theres two clips holding it, one at either side. when it does come off theres a tiny metal poppy plate and a spring... dont lose these!
ok now you should be able to see the back of the paddle has a little poll sticking out, this is what actually presses the button (that poppy bit of metal).
the problem is the poll has worn down a little so heres how to fix it!
get your electrical tape and cut 3 small squares off, each the same size as the top of that little bit of metal you have... and put the tape on the TOP of the metal (its the side with the dimple rather than the nipple)
now with the 3 bits of tape on top of each other your ready to ut the switch back together again, place the metal poppy thing onto the circuit board across the shiny bits in pretty much the only way it will go, so each corner of the bit of metal is on one of the shiny bits...
next place the spring back into the paddle (if it popped out, most likely!)
now CAREFULLY work the paddle back onto the black bit, take your time here cos the clips do snap easily but if you snap the lower clip DONT PANIC! it will work fine without it!
finally put the whole lot back into the wheel being careful not to nip the cable as alfa probably did!
do this for both sides and go for a spin... happy?
if its still a little hit n miss just put a little more tape onto it. i only needed 3 bits and both paddles have been working PERFECTLY for the past 5 weeks since i did this now... beats paying alfa £100!
