Well I've been at it for ages and to be honest I wish I'd never started!!!
Removed the battery tray etc so I can get to the selespeed unit and thought I'd try and just switch that rather than drop the whole gearbox, but it turns out that by the looks of it it's already a second hand one (with that yellow paint pen on in that breakers yards use
) and as a result the one important bolt that is needed to seperate the selespeed unit from the gearbox is rounded and cannot be undone http://www.lavenham-photographic.co.uk/ben/selebolt.jpg
The same was true on the second hand one I'm trying to fit
which is obviously the reason it was sold as a complete unit.
At least that one was on a desk so we could get to it and reach with some grippers and finally undo it after hours
of trying. (It's an allen head, plus impossible to get to) Alas, the unit in
the car isn't as simple to get to, so after literally hours of trying the one bolt that mean the gearbox could stay put, we've resigned ourselves to the fact that the whole gearbox does have to come out.
Tried and tried to get the gearbox to come out with the subframe still in place, (There are so many bolts you can't get to on that gearbox!) but we can't get it past, so I'm now trying to get the subframe off.
I've undone every bolt that I can see that holds the subframe up, including pretty much ever bolt at the hubs, but it's still stuck solid. By the looks of it there's the exhaust heatsheild still the rong side of it, but I can't see how that undoes. Any ideas people where the remaining bolts holding it on are?
