Today, after driving the car (in 2nd and 4th only!) to the garage to drill out a sheared bolt, the car had been parked while in Reverse. Went to start it, and - nothing.
Nothing but a Flashing 'R'
Car wouldn't start. Actually wasn't in Reverse, just thought it was, as it would still roll when pushed.
Ended up having to disconnect the battery for 5-10 minutes and try again. Still wouldn't give me Neutral until I'd changed up into 2nd first, then Neutral. Then I could start it! I was fuming!
Anyway, I drive the car, purely in 2nd and 4th, the 45 minutes to Avanti in Ipswich where they plugged it into there machine...
Runs diagnostics, finds no errors,
Tells the machine to check this plunger, this lever etc, finds no errors.
Runs the calibration program, and a few clunks and clicks later, Hey Presto!
She's Alive!!! All gears work perfectly!
I've even checked what happens when I park it in Reverse and try to start it, and that works now too!
They said that pretty much every time you change the clutch on one of these you'll more than likely have gear selection problems until it's been calibrated on their machine.
They thought I was a bit mental for changing the gearbox at home just using jacks!
