First thread: Alfa 156 issues help needed
Fistr up apologies for the length of the post, first time posts generally tend to be bit lengthy in the future theyll be short and sweet.
I've been a member since July which is when my wife and I bought the Alfa 156 2003 JTS selespeed and been happily repairing the car using the search function.
I have had many cars in the past which I have all worked on myself and theres nothing I'm afraid of. However this car is starting to frustrate me and leave me wondering will i get this car back to 100%.
So to the issues I have this massive hesitation in acceleration and jerkiness which seems to be really bad on cold then once the car warms up it just plain bad and annoying but not as bad when its cold. (in city mode and selespeed mode)
I also have and issue with a light rattle under acceleration also.
I have been using alfadiag or i think its called MCUscan or something I have both running i find one easier than the other. Frustratingly its throwing up something new all the time. On the way to work this morning the check engine light came on again so ill do another check tonight.
Things i have done to the car to help i have change 2 coilpacks (advised by the scan tool)
Replaced all spark plugs, clean the sensor near the air filter, adjusted the clutch fork position, fix all heating issues (thermastat and overflow bottle replaced and engine flush), fix airbag light issues, fix oil cap leak, change brakes allround discs and pads and lines (now all uprgraded too), new upper and lower front control arms, repaired interior and replaced the front lights and one rear one and upgraded the sound system which was a nightmare.
So as you can see in a short amount of time ive done a bit of work - would love to get some time to full detail the outside of the car but the repairs take up all of my time.
Any how the hesitation/jerkiness do you think this is the lambda sensors, because im starting to think it may also be a timing issue it appears the rocker cover appears to been removed before so maybe previous owner didnt get the timing right? (not sure of cars history). Ive tested the lambda sensors and they throw out the correct numbers (from my search efforts) but occassionally it does throw up and lambda sensor issue a different one normally. So im confused becasue sometimes i think oh maybe its the g/box but the scan tool is happy in that department
Also there is a sensor near the oil cap which is cover in oil from the oil leak i fixed what is and could this be an issue?
As for the rattle im thinking other a mild exhaust rattle but sounds like a pulley rattle - doesnt rattle on idle which is why im thinking exhaust.
So throw the advice and tips at me.
Thanks in advance
FYI Ill be posting up some cool right ups of the work ive done to help fellow users out, ive got to find the time to sit down collate the phots and write a thread about it all.
