Help Wierd noise

Hi all
I am experiencing a low grinding noise from my sportwagon (like metal to metal contact) when I set off and let out the clutch and also when I go over bumps and when I brake. It sounds as if it is coming from behind the bulkhead on the drivers side behind the pedals. On the move on smooth surfaces or at higher speeds the noise seems to disappear. I had the car into the garage on friday (when it was doing this intermittently) and they checked it over (inc the front bushes etc and said they were in good condition). They couldn't find anything obviously wrong but today (sunday) it has got a whole lot worse and is now happening all the time...any ideas anyone? I have checked the 'wierd noise' threads on here but can't find a post that sounds like my problem.

Re: Wierd noise

Just a thought, but if you can get under your car your gearbox has an oil dipstick, if you are low or out of gearbox oil I'd imagine you'd get a grinding noise on letting out the clutch. I'm probably wrong, but this isn't too hard to check and there is a possibility. Hope you get it sorted swiftly and most of all cheaply

Re: Wierd noise

I think I'd check the engine mountings first.

Re: Wierd noise

Have you checked in case one of your brake pads is sticking?
