1.9 JTD Common Issues?

Hi alfa friends!!! I am seriously considering the purchase of a 2001 146 1.9 JTD with 94k miles on the clock. I will be the 3rd owner.

The car looks in great shape, but being this will be my first turbo diesel, what should I look out for before buying?

I have no idea of the common issues with this engine.

AFAIK it is very reliable and is used by many car mfg.

I will schedule a test drive on monday and if I like it, I'm trading in my ti

Any advise will be appreciated.

Re: 1.9 JTD Common Issues?

Hi there my brother has the JTD I have the 1.6 TS! the JTD should prove to be trouble free and the engine is very robust, check the service intervals and check that the oil has been changed on a regular basis also make sure it doesn't smoke too much or repairs of this nature are very expensive ie: oil segments! Make sure the Turbo kicks in well you should be able to feel this whilst test driving it other than the above described you should have many miles of trouble free motoring! The electrical gremlins may be a presence but they are normally on all alfas whether they are petrol or not! Hope all goes well and enjoy the ride! All the best Alan.
