Fuel sensor 50!?!

Hi guys, you might have read my other post about the puddle of diesel under my 1.9 jtd so I have checking the hoses around the fuel filter and removed it. I noticed black seek any all around the fuel sensor that is attached to the fuel filter. Upon removing it came away because it was glued, I got the little piece that screws into the filter out with a screw driver twist around, this isn't the first bodega I have found since buying the car. I thought I would just order a new one but I'm no prepared to pay 50!!!

Looked on ebay and the same price, crazy for a bit of plastic.

What does this sensor do? Could it cause a diesel puddle?

Any ideas where to get one cheaper?

Cheers, Jon

This is to check for water in the fuel filters. Cheap solution is to buy a new filter and leave the plug in the new filter instead of fitting the sensor.

Yes, a new filter has the hole plugged with a screw in plug. Your local mechanic might have a plug lying around. Its a water in diesel sensor, light comes on if it detects water, frankly if there is water in the diesel the engine will tell you quicker than the sensor/light will, so plug it and drive on.
