Help required please, Q2 147 poor MPG and start up
I'd really appreciate any help.
I had the cam belt changed, but do not believe this to b the problem. Then a week later the car juddered and lost power. I pulled over. I suspected the EGR was the problem. I drove home 20 miles with no power, slow, but made it. Took off the EGR and it was full of soot. Cleaned it out and ensured the pin moved freely, then reassembled. I now have power and it drove again.
Although from exactly that day it does not fire / start straight away as it did before, takes like an extra crank to start, but always starts. Plus I am losing approximately 10 - 15 MPG, around 100 miles to the tank. I normally get 650 ish miles to the tank and around 52 ish MPG. I am struggling to get into the 40MPG range let alone 50's and getting 540 ish miles to the tank if I am am extra careful.
I have taken off the EGR again and reassembled to be sure.
Took off and checked the turbo hoses for splits.
Taken glow plugs out, wiped and put back. I can't see that these would go at the same time the EGR got blocked?
Am I right in saying if I am getting bad MPG there is an air and fuel mixture problem?
Any help appreciated,
