if you local mechanic worked on your car ok then that's great, a garage you know and trust is a great thing to have
ive owned 6 alfas in the last 17 years. this car is the first turbo diesel ive ever owned and i bought it on the grounds that it should save me money at the pumps.
The petrol ones i had never needed - driveshafts, clutch,DMF, endless boost pipe and vacuum hose issues that took me months to figure out in the car park at work with my laptop, injectors leaking black gue all over the head, injector seals failing (very common on merc engines also)
and finally 6 weeks ago injector one failed filling the cylinder with diesel while i was driving, so far this has cost me £850 to have the injectors tested, one rebuilt, the engine split open to check if the conrod is bent, and it looks like its damaged the turbo also. The car is running again but not very well and i am not paying further money to find out whats wrong with it.
so yeah swings and roundabouts and i did make the point earlier in the thread that the badge stuck to the front of the car doesn't matter one jot, high performance turbo diesel are expensive to pay someone else to fix
