Key coding - information
Considering a number of threads about Alfa keys, key replacements and key coding I would like to post one information which somebody might find useful. If you order a replacement key from your dealer, or if you get it from ebay and you want to code it by your dealer it is a MUST that all your keys are present by the coding. I mean, if you have 2 keys for your Alfa and you are getting third one coded, all three have to be present by the coding as the non-present one will not work with your car any more. And it can NOT be coded back.
I have this confirmed by more people and by my personal experience. I have two keys to my bella. One with remote buttons and one without them. As the boot opening button broke, I ordered third key planning to use it daily and to have two spares. When I went to the dealer for coding I took only one of my keys and left the emergency one at home. The dealer coded new key with no problems. And now I realized that the third one at home doesn’t work as it wasn’t present by the previous coding
I am not sure if this is valid for all Alfas, definitely for 147 and I guess for other present models too.
