My 147 JTDM 16v Mjet died 3 nights ago.
3 nights ago I went out and had a lovely night with a friend in Truro and as I was driving home to St Austell, my Bella decided to go a tad limp.....a maximum of 3000rpm limp but no management light.
Odd I thought, I dropped her into 2nd and gave her a toot to hopefully clear the egr that may have such but nothing. Over the half a mile I travelled in this state, I luckily got her to the outside of a friends house at 11:30pm that night. She wasn't happy. Banging and crashing.
I called the AA who arrived at 12:30am and towed me home arriving home at 1am.
Everything was fine on the car, until the casing for the cam belt was opened....
The belt was slack, wobbling like a good un.
It had jumped.....badly.
The next day I bought a new pump and belt and took it to the local garage. The previous cam belt was not fitted correctly, tensioner not in the correct location and the belt was never tensioned.
My engine jumped 2 cogs, and is now only running on 1 piston. The garage offered to repair the work but at 1200 quid I had to refuse. Full head removal, skim, countless valves to replace and pressure test etc and labour cost.
So she now or will be shortly wrapped up in my garage until the new year before I can drive her again. She will be repaired then, having a friend mechanic removing the head and going private for the overhaul. Its so much cheaper.
But for now, Im extremely upset, sickened and running around in a clio. What a difference in drive.
