Clutch Problems

Hiya All

Got In my car this morning and by the time I got to work, I could hardly change gear as there was little resistance in the clutch pedal.

Ended taking it into dealer and it requires a new clutch. They are doing it for £720 all in. Does this seem reasonable.

Advice appreciated!

Re: Clutch Problems

If the clutch was worn out, it should not affect the clutch pedal resistance from the day before!

Are you sure that it isn't a hydraulic problem that you have? 'Little resistance' in the clutch pedal sounds more like no hydraulic pressure.

Check first, for hydraulic fluid leaks at the master cylinder, outside and inside the car, above the pedals ect and around the slave cylinder, somewhere on top of the belhousing, I believe.

Failing that, lack of hydraulic pressure could be cause by an internal leak (seal failure). Usually resulting in a cylinder change and bleed.

I fitted a clutch to my 2 ltr 164, it cost £100. Prices quoted to have it fitted, £450 - £750. I guess it is about a days work, for a garage. Did it myself.

Re: Clutch Problems

Sending it to a dealers the £720 price is not the worst i have heard, mine was £1100 for clutch and DMF of which the DMF was about £450.

Re: Clutch Problems

Have you checked the brake/clutch fluid level?
