New 156 owner needs advice please...

Ive recently bought a 1999 156 1.8 TS. 55,000 miles in tip-top condition.

I do alot of mileage (500/wk) & I need a bit of guidance on what type of Oil would be best for me to use.

I've been told that I need to keep on top of my oil changes - When & regulary should I get my oil changed???

The owner's manual recommend's 10w 40 semi synthetic, in particular Selenia 20K to be changed every 12,000 miles.

Check the oil OFTEN, that means at longest weekly. Alfas do burn oil but the amount varies from car to car and quite a few of them need regular topping up between oil changes. Letting the oil run low will cost a lot more than an oil top up in the long run as damage/premature wear will likely be caused to the variator which is about £100 but needs a cambelt change at the same time to replace it, another £100, plus labour about £200. Thats £400 straight off for a bit of oil .

Don't trust the dipstick marks either, the low mark is more a "too low" mark. Most people recommend that you never let the oil level get below the middle of between the 2 marks and definitely should not let it approach the lower mark or god forbid go below it.
