Bl**dy exhausts --- something to watch for
I've been fairly lucky until now in that my exhaust has lasted well ... I've had a new front section when the flexi blew and a cat-back centre pipe to hook to a second hand tailbox. And in just over 193K miles, that to me is good.
But a few months ago my cat decided its nine lives we up and that went in the bin. Plus the join just in front on the rear 'axle' gave in ...
So bought the complete new exhaust inc a cat (non-type approved as car is pre 2001). Reputable make, reputable motor factor. But can I get the damn thing to seal? .. can I heck. The centre pipe seems a bit too short and pulls the rear section too far forward so it hits the rear anti-roll bar. Measured and checked with supplier and their other section is same length. Sealing the centre pipe to the back of the cat and the rear section is proving more than fun. Tried twice and still blows.
So I'm going to try to put a short section between the two at the last join ... to push the rear section up and back a bit to make up the short-fall.
So watch out for pipes cut just below or bang on the specs ...
