If any of you have followed my problems, well... its just got worse.
Just to recap,
I bought my first ever Alfa, a 156 sele and was overjoyed at its performance and features compared the drab that I've always driven, bear in mind this is based on the 82 miles home from where I bought the car which was mainly motorway miles. Within the first week I noticed clunky gears changes which also kept going into neutral when the car was cold.
I also noted that the airbag light was constantly on, I didn't even know what the symbol was until I joined this forum and thought it was strange, that the dealer I bought from would have allowed the car to pass the MOT based on that alone.
My last post was describing the moment when I lost a days pay due to the car refusing to engage any gears. There was a burning smell so it didnt look good. I agreed to fund the transportation costs for my sele to visit Guests in Solihull. Please note that the car has a three months warranty and was informed by the dealer that the above cost was not covered by them.
When the car was being loaded onto the transporter, the driver asked me where I'd bought it from and if it was HPI clear. (dealer said it is) I was appauled when he pointed out on the passenger side it was 'rippled'. In his words.. " can you see that? Its full of filler".
After a few more checks, you could see where it had been resprayed and filled but luckily the frame appeared untouched. Despite giving the car a once over when I bought it, this was only visible because the car was elevated at eye level.
Still with me, thanks and on with the rant
Guests had the car for a day and phoned me with the news:
Clutch had gone.
Gear box cracked
Wrong selespeed fluid.
Mentioned the pump, but not sure if its no good.
The repair bill was £2500!
The dealer isnt going to pay that and therefore wants the car returned back to him for repair (Wigan). The car has been sitting in Guests for 11 days now waiting for the dealer to collect it, he said and I quote "I'm waiting for a space to become available at our garage as its no good sitting here doing nothing".
Hold on, its me thats inconvenienced here! and its doing fook all at Guests either!
Despite promises of a cheque in the post for the diagnostics performed on the car, I'm still waiting for that too. I've contacted trading standards as I've lost patience and the heart to be honest. They have informed me that the car should not have passed the MOT based on the airbag light alone and according to 'the sale of goods act, as amended' the vehicle is not of satisfactory quality as it has major defects.
The conclusion is to go for a full refund right? If they were to repair, I'd want it done by Guests as to have the work guaranteed and done by qualified Alfa personnel.
Anybody whos got a similar plight or has had any experience regarding the legalities, I'd be very grateful for advice and/or feedback of your own experiences.
As it put me off owning an Alfa? Pfft!! Dont be silly!
