Thought about the tensioner indicator thing, think I may of worked it out.Spring loaded indicator, that lines up with a predetermined mark, when sufficient tension is on the belt.

Yes you are right, it sort of works on a cam principle. i.e. spring pressure keeps the lobe of the cam thus the pulley against the belt. as the cam is forced in by the pressure of the belt, it winds up the spring and moves the indicator. As the belt tension fluctuates the spring is compressed and released and the indicator moves up and down.
