2000 V 156 2.5 Veloce

Hello All,

I am trying to decide how good an idea buying this car is. I have read all sorts of things about reliability concerns. Can you try and advise me in an unbiased way? Is this car worht buying?

Re: 2000 V 156 2.5 Veloce

if the car has:

a full service history
cambelt and tensioner change every 36k or 3 years, whichever is sooner
all its keys, they are expensive to get cut and programmed
no visible accident repair
fully HPI checked
passess the "gut" feel test

then buy it dude...a well maintained alfa these days is a better option than most

I have just bought a 2000 year Lusso, great car, my only comment is that it is thirsty compared to my 155 2.0TS 16v.

Definitely agree about getting all keys and the cam belt being changed, i didn't check when i bought my 2001 V6, just had belts, tensioners, and water pump changed as precaution, and am over a £1000 lighter in pocket. but a fantastic car to own. Go for it and put a smile on your face when you get behind the wheel

the cambelt on the V6 will need to be changed at 72k and 5 years acording to Alfa but better safe than having to fork out 2500+ for repairs when it snaps

Re: 2000 V 156 2.5 Veloce

Owned a 2001 v6 auto for a week now , very pleased.

Cons: 20 25 mpg
Soft suspension
Brakes Dreadful

Pros: Joy to drive
Looks good
Nice image

The car doesnt feel fragile, but my particular one has an A1 record.

Quality is not as good as the best(rusty wheel nuts etc) but probably above average. As with any car it will be as good as its servicing , buy a cheap one, dont look after it and it will become unreliable. Buy a good one and do whats needed and you can expect good service.

Overall very pleased with the V6.

Re: 2000 V 156 2.5 Veloce

I bought mine in December and love it. Looked at a few and bought the best condition ( 1 owner, fully specced, 90K miles) i could find. Make sure its got full service history and few owners (leather is a must) and you cant go far wrong. MPG is pretty crap (25) but smiles/mile is high! I'd definately buy another, but would go for a GTA next. Its pretty quick, but could be quicker (I came from a Maserati Biturbo - which was scary quick!). Once you drive one and hear the exhaust note you'll be reaching for your wallet - good luck
