Well Happy Re-programming of key

Hi ya

My keys busted, and I've managed to get a new one on ebay. Saving myself about £160. I now need to get it Re-programmed. Alfa Romeo are charging £90.

Anybody know anywhere thats a bit cheaper??

What do you mean you got one on Ebay? It should have been Pre-Programmed.

Re: Re-programming of key

If your car should have come with two black keys then the key you have bought won't allow you to start the car. If it was a second hand key then you need to get a new blade cut for it and then get Alfa to programme the car to accept it. Even then all it will do is turn the alarm off and allow you to open the doors. Its won't be able to start the car. The only way to get the car running is to buy a brand new key from Alfa.

Alfa charge £9.95 for the code card then £38 ish for coding the car (plus vat)

If however your car came with a red key then i'n not sure what the plan of attack is as i've only been researching cars that had two black keys.

Re: Re-programming of key

Hi David,

Sent you a PM as its quite likely your old key can be mended cheaper than a recode.

As Rockhopper says, a second-hand key isn`t as simple a solution as it seems.

Re: Re-programming of key

Hi David,

I'd let Chris have a go at your key for you. Both mine stopped working and were in poor condition. He's fixed the first one up as good as new. I sent him my spare this morning so he can fix that one too.

Re: Re-programming of key

You don't program the keys on the newer
systems. (147 and later)

You program the car to accept the key.
Thus it's normally a dealer job and you
won't save that much dosh buying keys
off FleaBay.

Re: Re-programming of key

Chris - tried a PM but your box is full

In Australia and my daily key for my 02 Alfa 147 has gone on the blink.
Red light flashes but no reaction from the car.. Still works in ignition just not remote lock unlock
Secondary key works fine.

Took it to my local dealer (A$1700 for my 5yr service inc a t-belt change) and they are wanting A$495 for a new key.

So appreciate any tips on cheaper ways
