So its been nearly 6 months since i found and bought my Gt cloverleaf q2. And i now feel i am at a great place with the car and how she handles. Eibach ARB kit and Eibach pro s coilovers were fitted and recently a weichers alu strut brace. I have lowered the car again since Autolusso fitted the coilovers, and the lower centre of gravity really improved the dynamics of the car.
I really do not think this 156/GT chassis gets enough praise when it is modified. It never ceases to amaze me the way my GT grips and handles, and how much pleasurable feedback i get through the steering.
The difference all the chassis mods make is quite staggering. And if anyone is in doubt about the cost versus effectiveness equation, have no fear you will love it.
What i tried hard to achieve chassis wise with my GT was to have a good compliant ride, excellent dynamics with a low stance. Non of this harsh crashy unpleasant ride you get with most hard coilover setups these days. I learnt the hard way on my last car an audi TT qs with bilstein pss9's with H&R ARB kit. The ride when lowered even when adjusted to soft damper setting was harsh, and ruined the on road drivability and enjoyment of the car.
So having experienced this, it was so important to me to get my GT right. I actually lost faith in coilovers for on road use. And was going to go with a quality spring and damper setup instead. When Ned at autolusso suggested the eibach pro s coilover kit. I was best sceptical at first. Ned suggested also i fit his bespoke front spring setup that settles the front of the car much better than the kit springs. Well after Ned kindly gave me a ride in a GTA with this set up my mind was made up. The chassis behaved so well, with such a quality feel, not crashy at all. Perfect balance of great damping and spring balance. The eibach kit is perfected and designed for "fast road" in mind. So a lot more comfort orientated than some other kits on the market.
So on went the new eibach pro coilovers, with the eibach ARB kit. And living with the car since has been simply awesome experience. I never had the q2 diff on my last modded GT. So its been educational getting used to just how effective it is in the whole equation. You learn to keep you foot down in fast twisties, the diff for a lack of better description, simply pulls you round corners. And induces so much confidence. Awesome modification as we all know.
So all in all really enjoying my GT at the moment, and the strut brace is a slight cherry on the cake, giving a slightly stiffer feel to the front end when pressing hard into fast corners. What i love about this car is it does everything so well. Relaxing to drive on the motorway, and then in the backroads and twisties the chassis comes alive.
The GT is a great package, but really well and truly comes to life with a few chosen quality chassis mods.
