Replacing Suspension Bushes

Now, I am seriously considering adding these to my 'to do' list. However, considering the cost to do at my local dealer I am wondering how difficult it is to do in a D.I.Y. way. I would like to hear experiences people have had. Although I would expect it to be quite tricky.

How much difference have people found it makes... has it just cut out a few squeeks or does it really noticable tighten up the car?
