Help Rear end of 147 feels loose and uncontrollable

Hi all, there is something wrong with the rear end of my 2004 147. It creaks and groans when moving up and down, and can suddenly jerk down when coming to a stop or starting off. Also, when going over bumps there is loud knocking noise, and if i go over a bump when going round a left turn, if feels like the back of the car isn't attached and i get a real big wobble/step out from the back end. All of this eminates from the rear offside of the car.

any suggestions before i take it in to the garage as to what it could be??

thanks for looking

There are several links & bushes at the rear, some or all of which could be at fault.
Could also be spring and/or damper, etc..

Without getting under the car it is guesswork really.

Member car:

Alfa GT JTDm

could be as simple as arb droplink which are only pade from plastic and cheap and easy to sort out. or it could easily be worn dampers. which I think mine are on there way out.

There are some bushes at the rear end which if they fail, they pull out of the arms. Originally there are large washers which would prevent the arm from coming off the bush but if the back end has been apart before and put back together with the washers in the wrong place it'd be possible for a suspension arm to be flapping about.. I would get underneath and have a look before driving it somewhere, could be dangerous. I've seen it happen on a car we bought for breaking and one of the rear wheels simply folder underneath the car while cornering, not pretty.

Its probably not this, but better safe than sorry.

If it feels like it's tram lining then it's probably a shock absorber. I had the same issue. It's an odd feeling...
