Dead clutch - 156 1.8TS
Morning all, another clutch thread! Iím hoping someone will be able to help diagnose where the fault lies, or tell me what I can check to attempt to diagnose it. The current state is that the pedal is completely free of resistance, it goes straight to the floor and doesnít come back unless you pull it up. Iíve checked the clip and that isnít the problem, the pedal is connected to the rod behind it.
Symptom wise, for a week or so the clutch has felt heavier than usual, and there has also been a kind of vibration through it when changing gear. From time to time it has also been very stiff (to the point of being almost impossible) engaging some gears, particularly first, and a couple of times reverse has been impossible, it just crunched as though the clutch wasnít being used. There was then a bit of a shrieking noise when changing from third to fourth. Finally, when driving yesterday the pedal just went straight to the floor which is where things are now.
Itís a 1.8TS sportwagon, done 113,000 miles and I donít think itís had anything done on the clutch at any point (Iíve had it since 2007/40k). Ideally it will be worth fixing!
Thanks in advance for any help.
