GT brakes need bleeding
I had brake failure, which was a bit scary at about forty MPH, and after safely coming to a halt the AA man identified my left front brake hose had worn away. I had pumped the brakes a few times in terror, as you can imagine, so I emptied about 200ml of brake fluid onto the road. I got the nice AA man to tow my car back to my dad's house as it was closest and I knew he would help me.
My dear father replaced the brake hose for me and topped up the 200ml or so of fluid (that's how I know how much I pumped out) but now he does not know how to bleed the brakes. Everything he does ( he tells me) does not make the pedal hard. He has done lots of brake bleeding in his day ( he tells me, again) but this has him puzzled.
We have read a lot of similar messages on the forum to try to find out what to do with various people suggesting we may need to use diagnostics, a syringe, a vacuum pump etc but nobody who has asked for help has actually stated how they finally solved the problem. Have I got to get it towed to a garage or can my dad sort it?
