Well I am taking a risk and going with Choice Mechanics. They have quoted £460 all in, using a Valeo full clutch kit and replacing the gearbox oil.
They broke down the cost and confirmed it is a 6-8 hour job. The way they work is they sub-contract to a local garage and work is RAC approved. Doing some digging around the internet they have very positive reviews, only complaints seemed to be about paying £19 for gearbox oil or them not being on time to pick up the cars.
I just hope it will be ok, obviously I would have preferred a specialist but I understand they are very busy and it is a horrendously time consuming job.
At the end of the day it is at the limit of my budget at the moment and if I get another year out of it all the better.
Bit nervous as I have never organized car repairs in this way before, although they all seem to check out. I have the address of the garage it is going too and all the numbers to contact. They will collect the car on Tuesday 9th.
If the car was newer/more valuable I would gone the specialist route. However if it can keep an old car on the road it is worth a try.
