Take care of your balls

Our 20v - and this green and pleasant land's grey and unpleasant roads - have just knocked out a Mehle droplink in six months. I was ever so pleased when the knocking started to develop and I had to fork out more readies for replacements prior to returning it under warranty . . . but. There's always a but and in this case it was mine on the line. When we removed the dud we found that the rubber boot on the lower joint had been pushed out of place. As a result, the joint was grease-free and full of crap; no warranty claim, it had simply worn out before its time. We don't know whether we displaced the rubber when fitting it or something's caught it (unlikely, I think) but the other side's fine so it will remain one of life's little mysteries.
