I'm going through the same process with my 147.
I've installed the same head unit as Marko only last week. If you change the head unit, you definitely need to change the speakers. With the volume turned up only 40%, the factory speakers were distorting. When taking the factory ones out, you can definitely tell they were built to a budget. The cone was made of paper and the basket of plastic rather than plastic and metal!
I've just installed some 6.5" Pioneer components in the front. Pics show them in a half finished state. I'll post more pics up once properly installed. I could have got the mid bass driver behind the factory grill but I couldn't be bothered waiting to order a tailor made adaptor ring so just butchered the original speaker and screwed the Pioneer ring on top of it. It'll look better once the grill is on the door. I don't mind having the tweeter on display. It kind of fits in with the air vents.
I've got a Genesis four channel amp bought from ebay which will drive the front components. I'm in two minds as to what to do with the rear. I could discard the rear mids totally and just install a sub run off the bridged remaining two channels. Alternatively, I may keep the two sets of speakers and upgrade the rear set as well as adding a sub powered by its own source.
I've also added sound deadening to the door panels.
