4 year service + belts and tensioners, is this reasonable?

My local Alfa garage charges 820 for a 4 year service check with belts and tensioners changed on a 147 SS. Is this about right?

The car has only done 13k miles so I find it a bit hard to part with that kind of money on a car with so low mileage, but if that is the going rate I guess it has to be done.

820 quid does seem very expensive , is this main dealers price for work to be done?.....if you go to an independent alfa specialist, they do the work for a lot cheaper than that

Yes weekends only. Live and work in London so commuting by car would take me twice as long as going by the tube. The car still looks as good as she did when she was new, inside and out.

It is an independent garage. Maybe I should call around and get a few quotes. Everything in this city seems to cost about 50% more than it should so I wouldn't be too surprised if it is the going rate.

Get a few quotes, 820 quid does seem a load of money for the work that needs doing

Brien N, looks like we are in a similar boat. Nudging, that 12,000 recorded. Do still fuss it though, why not keep one for best, if cicumstances permit. People often say, ( think they may want to buy it) " Whats your'e car worth then mate?") reply, "What it would cost to buy a new one." daft maybe? Going on your service costs, suppose that includes brake check, brake fluid replacement, coolant replaced, plus that essential oil and filter, air cleaner, pollen filters, lubricate hinges, pivot points, check lights, everything on the service schedule in fact for low mileage servicing. Fortunately, I can, so have done, most of this myself. Sounds quite an outlay to me though.Of course, the belt's, and asociated, are a different issue, which I will probably ask that recommended chap on the Cambs./Herts border to do, if he can fit me in.

Yes, take a day off work, go to Jamie Porter, save about 300 and spend a leisurely day at Duxford .

That's a really good idea Vo2Max. As I believe they have a few Panzers there alongside the Nafta, Rafta, stuff. Well they did call us Pongoes! That is a seriously good idea, which I had not considered, log that one up.

Re: 4 year service + belts and tensioners, is this reasonable?

Just had another chat with the garage. They now reckon they can get just over 200 from Alfa UK towards the cost. That leaves me with a bill of slightly less than 600 which seems reasonable.

Car booked in for the service in mid March.

Can I ask what garage you booked your car in? Wouldn't be Desira (rip-off) by any chance would it?

Interestingly you say that Alfa will pay £200 towards the belts and tensioners even though it's 1 year outside the 3 year warranty?

Don't think it is warranty related, more a gesture of goodwill from Alfa because they have changed the service schedule.

Don't know the exact details though, all I know is that the guy at the service desk reckoned they could get ~200£ from Alfa towards the costs.
