...pretty soon. My car is a 2002 pre-facelift 2.0 TS 156 Selespeed. I'm thinking of getting Ferodo DS Performance pads and whatever reasonably priced discs will go with them (not necessarily grooved or drilled). I seem to remember from last time that getting the right sized discs (front in particular) was a bit of a pain. Can anyone reassure me of the correct disc diameters front and back please? And if anyone has any ideas re: a place to get the pads and discs for a good price, much appreciated!
The little stalk bolt thingy is to help locate the wheel on the hub. The back of the standard wheel has cut outs in so when you offer up the wheel the peg bit locates allowing you to get the bolt holes aligned more easily. You don't need it as its only other job is to loosely hold the disc onto the hub, again to align the holes in the disc with the holes in the hub.
On the fitting front. The brake wind back tool is available from a number of sources, Halfords do a general purpose one, but it doesn't quite fit a 156. My local garage used a really big windback tool on my car as the pistons has got to the end of their travel and took a hell of a lot of force to get moving! I'd try and rent one from HSS or similar for the weekend as when you have the rear caliper off, it won't go back on properly without a pad change!
PS - Copper grease is your friend, but go easy on the handbrake tensioning, too tight and you will fry your pads and probably crack your discs in a week!
Uncanny, I was just looking at his site! I got some pads/discs from BuyPartsBy and will fit these meself. Thermostat too. I'm due the 72,000 service in a couple of 1000, I'll get Jamie to do his special deal belts/pulleys/variator job for £365 when the time comes.
