Get the 156, I bought one this year. I was after a stylish car that didn't cost a lot but was cheap to run. I looked at jag, 156, gt and Saab. The family car we have a bmw x5 3.0 petrol that cost a small fortune on petrol but it's bullet proof and flys through mots. I went with the 156 for work and family as I do a lot of travelling. I bought a facelift 156 1.9 jtd sport for £1300 and I'm well happy with her, the interior is beautifull she looks a lot new than she is, huge boot, good on diesel. I have spend a few quid on her with new turbo hose and a few treats like 18 blacklines ;-) but a great overall car and quicker than I expected. I still have my v6 for speed and spider for the summer but the 156 is a great everyday run around. One of the main reasons I went with a alfa is I know them with having v6 n spider and if I have any problems I know where to come for help. I had a minor issue with her and a kind forum member sorted it and I have since purchased the fault reader cables so if I have any more problems I will just plug her in. If I bought a jag or Saab I could see big bills.
Hope it's helps, good luck with what ever you buy.
