Steering knocking persists......
Taken back to the specialist today, he appears confident that the new rack is correctly fitted, and can see no reason for any knocking.
There is a little knocking when engine off and I waggle the steering wheel. However, once engine is on there is a lot more play, and a definate loud sounding knock.
Specialist seems to think that this is the valve - however, I am not convinced as it seems to be coming from the knuckle joint at the bottom of the column where it meets the rack.
Car has had a new valve and rack.
1. I am told columns rarely go.
2. If it is the knuckle joint Alfa tell me I need the whole rack. Does anyone know of anywhere that overhauls them?
3. Is it very easy to replace rack and the valve? Ie, is there anything my specialist may have overlooked which may warrant a closer look?
Other items on the repair list include a new clutch pedal pin, new cruise control censor on the clutch pedal after the pin failure knackered it, and also gearstick hard to move out of fourth gear on my drive in.
That Mondeo is calling even louder now.....
Seriously, any steering related thoughts welcome.
Car corners great now it has new CV joints - only vague on the motorway due to something somewhere being loose!
