Re: GT 1.9JTD Vs 3.2V6
I personally am shopping for a GT. I cover 300 miles a week, so I had to consider the JTD. Did all my sums and it worked out that I'd save about £30 a week on fuel, something like £1500 pa. Now, that's something reasonably serious, so I arranged a test drive. Well, the car was nice, started up fine, didn't sound too diesely, though obviously it was. Could drive around town and country, plenty of torque, minimal lag, and after a while I did get used to shifting at 3000rpm, and what seemed like an excessive amount of shifts. Overall, quite a good package, and a very good diesel car.
Then I wound down the windows, as would be my preference on a summers day. I couldn't handle it. On the move, it wasn't so bad, (still bad) but at the traffic lights I hated it. No wonder there is no diesel engine for the Spider!
So my only choice was the V6. I only ever owned petrol before, and I thought I could live without those revs and sound, and maybe I can, but I don't have to, so I won't.
But I don't disrespect the (Alfa) diesel drivers out there. I still toy with the idea of a diesel 147 or 156 for commuting. And I'm sure with a remap and a few tweeks, not only would the car be very rapid, but it might sound ok too (as I've read yours does Sandy). But it got me thinking, and hence to this thread, is there anyone who would pick a JTD over a 3.2 - money no object, especially in a GT.
Looks like the answer is "No".
