High CO on MOT

I failed MOT today on high CO mainlly with 2 other unrelated niggles. After injector cleanup at a local garage I tested again and this time she passed barely.

The garage said it was the cat. However, how can I be sure it is and not the Lambda or MAF or simply my excessive oil consumption? Or even a blocked PCV? She does smoke on acceleration but not always. Just before the test I thrashed her, to make sure the cats are up to temp. But after waiting in line for my turn, she puffed quite a bit when the tester fast idled her.

Have MES and tools. What should be the fault elimination process?

Thanks for helping out!

Cogito Ergo Zoom - I think. Therefore I drive fast.
