Re: 2nd hand 147 purchase
Well now, here we go on the old mileage issue, albeit an exceptional case I have in mind. Saw our 147 in Autotrader,3yrs old,7,700 on the clock. Young lady had treated herself, after she and her partner split up. Almost directly after, new chap comes along, new relationship, he has a big Merc, plus 407 estate car, Alfa is redundant. Viewed it, lifted the bonnet, like new, think I can still detect a 'Tonced Up' motor when I see one. Labels still stuck on all over the place, didn't look as if the the underside, arches, engine bay, had ever been out in the wet. Box of wine in the boot, tinkling when I test drove it. Checked under rear, noticed slight distortion in one transverse link.
Took case of wine out, was masking slight rubbing of link on rear subframe. Engine ran beautifully, brakes were excellent, Selespeed functioned perfectly. Apart from the transverse link, the car was like new. People had been interested, but many questioned the mileage, some thinking it should of been 77,000 on a three year old car. One of the best purchases I have made. Now five and a half years old, still looks and drives as new. Cambelt stuff was sorted, as per previous post.Think ourselves most fortunate, and no do not wish to part with it. P.S. Transverse link cost about £26, to replace! Aint we lucky???
