Whining Noise - 156 JTS - Belts?
Done a quick search of the forums and it seems this is a fairly common problem on the JTS's - just looking for a bit of a point in the right direction.
Over the course of the last few weeks the engine has developed a very loud whine. It's always been there to some extent, but has definitely got louder over the last few journeys. The pitch and volume of the whine increases with RPM.
The Cambelt and associated bits and pieces were done about 5000 miles ago - it's recently had a full service and I always top it up with 10w60 if it uses any oil.
The power steering pump doesn't seem to make any noise when turning the wheel, and all feels fine. Seems to drive really well apart from the noise.
Was wondering whether it could be any of the aux belts or maybe the alternator?
I have a round trip from Bristol to Cornwall to do this weekend - I've done a few trips recently with the noise and it seems to be okay. Safe to make the journey?
Many thanks all for your help!
