...and I forgot to add the leaking radiator which had to be replaced to that list, but it was stone damage so is more forgivable. The gear knob is also falling apart however, so another black mark against the car there as well!
I think you are being picky real picky all cars have problems its an 6 year old car you are driving .Its bound to have a few creaks .
Yes it is 6 years old, but has only covered 49,000, with a full service history to date. When the clutch went, Autolusso said it's quite common for the clutch bearing to go in the 40-45k range, which is pretty poor to be honest, the BMW and even Renault diesels we have had have got over 100k on their clutch without issue. I understand this is a GM unit which Alfa use though so not completely their fault.
But on the rear parcel shelf bushes and seatbelt bushes being in the wrong place? I mean come on, only takes small change at production stage to fix these. The car was £23,000 new, I picked it up when it was only 2 years old with 20k on and these were issues then.
The door handles feel cheap and it was passenger one which broke. This may be understandable if it was used all the time (it isn't) or even if I was rough when I opened it (I wasn't) A person in my town has just got a blackline, and within a week his handle had broken as well!
They are just wear and tear issues, even a Bentley gets them.
We have a 22 year old MX5, no squeaks, no rattles, and original door handles! I know you get the odd car, but there's plenty of GT's with the same issues on here and they aren't really what I would call mechanical, they are as a result of poor build quality and too much cost cutting without thinking about whether or not it would affect the customers willingness to buy from the brand again.
If you wanted a less 'slightly rubbish' car what would you choose?
We have a 09 Mito 155 in the family which is only 4 months older in terms of build date, and yet nothing feels like it will come off it or break in the same way that it does with the GT. Before the GT I had a Mito 120TB and loved that as well. Those cars made me think that everyone coming up to me saying don't Alfa's break down a lot or cause you grief were wrong, so I went and got a GT thinking all would be fine.
I expected the odd issue and up until the seat cable breaking I probably would have thought about another one and certainly would have recommended one....but after this latest issue, and actually stopping to think about everything else wrong with the car....I can't help but feel let down by the whole experience.
