Re: V6 Bmc Cda.
Thats not strictly true. When you called I said it "might" be that this has caused the issue as without seeing how you have fitted it, run a diagnostic its impossible to tell over a mobile phone call! I also never said that the CDA is correctly installed for the same reason.
We fit between 3-5 CDA's per week on Alfa's (I did 3 this weekend alone!) and have done so for the past 3-4 years and have never had an issue like you have described.
You should always run a new oiled filter of any description with the MAF out to start with if you are unsure, especially if you have just cleaned it and re-oiled it yourself, its common sense!
We offer telephone support with any CDA bought from us, some people call, some don't and we have never had an issue with them.
It may be that your MAF was on the way out anyway as the biggest cause of MAF failure on Alfa 156's is broken airbox lids - and as you have just said.... your airbox lid was knackered so you have had dirty unfiltered and oily air going straight onto it for some time. Now the air is going through faster and colder, it may not be reading correctly. I am NOT saying this IS the cause, its just a strong possibility!
My concern is that you have this "hell of a roar" - as you shouldnt have if fitted correctly. You certainly shouldnt hear it above the normal engine sound.
