Its been discussed before but its part of the glass guidance design. Because the front door glass are only really guided on the rear edge they use these small lips on the front to make sure the glass goes into the front door channel even at speed when suction tends to pull the glass out when raising the window to the closed position.
They were first used that I remember on the Ford Sierra later most car manufacturers have used them at some time. Obviously since they cost something to add them, if the car maker finds they can do without them they do.
