Re: 2001 156 Selespeed 56000miles with Transmission Problem
I have strengthened the housing which supports the top of the selector shaft, as there is not much you can do with the verticle plunger without totaly re-designing the actuator.
I started going down all the routes everyone else is taking, checking wiring connectors, topping up with Tutela etc.
Mine was intermittent, missing a gear etc, then after fidling it worked for a about 100 miles, fault free. Then the problems came back with a vengance.
It was doing different things tho, going into N, going up or down to the next gear rather than the one selected.
This is when I decided to strip a gearbox & actuator to see physicaly what's going on.
The gearboxes can break, where the selector shaft is housed, this can cause problems, depending on how much aluminium breaks, but what I found with the actuator was very decisive.
