Steering wheel/ Airbag removal

I want to take off the middle part of the steering wheel on my 147. Any tips on doing this? I take it I need to remove the three screws (allen key?) and just lift it off? Oh, and disconnect the battery 15 mins earlier?
Any other tips? I just want reassurance as I don't feel that comfortable playing around with the airbag!

Re: Steering wheel/ Airbag removal

You've basically got it - the screws are Torx, not allen key IIRC, and as you start to remove the airbag there is an electrical connection to undo - just unplugs.

Have faith, all will be well :-)

Re: Steering wheel/ Airbag removal

Finally got around to doing this. The reason I wanted to remove it was a rattle inside the steering wheel.
Taking the cover off was a bit tricky (hard to get at the screws), but got there in the end. Unfortunately, the rattle is coming from inside the cover/ airbag - looks like this.
I presume I can't go any further? Or can I open this?
