Today whilst setting off to work I got a Motor Control System Failure
warning on my dash… nice.
When I started the car this morning I did notice that there was a slight rattle which I had not herd before. So I left it running for a couple of minutes on the drive and she sounded fine, so I set off to work as normal.
However about 3-4 miles down the road a loud beep informs me of the Motor Control System Failure. The car appears to drive without any problems, but I pulled into a petrol station anyway, and that’s when I herd a strange kind of rattle coming from the engine.
The engine is not misfiring, as she rev’s smoothly up to about 3500, it’s after the peak in rev’s that the rattle can be herd as the engine returns to the idle level.
Please see this thread Here
for info about another problem that my car had with the previous owner. Basically pipe between turbo and intercooler was replaced.
Could the problem I have experienced today be related in anyway?
Also, I don’t usually park on the front part of my drive because it’s on quite steep downwards slope towards the garage, however last week I had to, and when I reversed the car off the drive in the morning I thought I could smell something strange in the cabin, not burning, but maybe fumes?! This smell soon cleared and I thought nothing more of it.
Anyway, if anyone has ever experienced something similar, or could possibly suggest what they think it might be then please reply.
The car is now with Motorvogue Alfa dealers in Northampton who are going to take a look at her tomorrow morning and ring me with news.
Judging from the info I have given above, is there anything in particular that I should be asking them to check?
