I'd always loved ALFA's but never had the b---lls to buy one , due to the poor press coverage and in the first instance my father telling me at 19yrs of age --- DON'T , they're trouble. Having retired and had 4 x 4's the last 23 yrs for my business , I was getting fed up with the mpg on my Landcruiser , especially when towing the race car on a Minno trailer at 22mpg at best. Even without the towing at a steady under 60mph on holidays , it was 27mpg at best.
So --- with a rubbish pension (due to Mr Blair stealing 20% from pension credits as soon as he got into power !!!) the Cruiser had to go . Sold it on Pistonheads for £13,600 (2005 model) after buying the Red 159ti 2.4 2009 46,000 miles for £13,250 . Before this , several months previously , I'd seen it for sale at £14,500 and taken it for a test drive ---- absolutely loved it. Still had the Cruiser so no hurry to watch and wait which I did for another 3 mths. Then made them an offer of £12,500 which was rejected but let them drag me up to where I wanted to be at £13,250 but not before getting up to walk out of the showroom at their suggested figure.
I love every minute I spend in the car , even nipping out to get fuel or an errand for my wife . When it's parked I look at it as I walk away , it's a stunning looker. The first thing I did was service it myself , as I never trust garages to do it well. It had been done at 42,000 miles apparently(an 18,000 mile gap from the previous service !!!) but I drained the oil hot and left for two hours before filling with clean cheap oil . Ran it for 20 miles then drained it and filled with Millers Nanodrive 5w40 plus ZX1 Extralube and filter. This has been done every 5 to 6 thousand miles since owning the car. Also fitted a RUTLAND MOTORS oil catch tank and run it on Shell V Nitro plus 70mls of RHINO per tank .
Soon after buying it I had the B12 suspension from ALFISTI fitted then Autolusso's Powerflex front adjustable bushes too. These and Adie Hawkin's remap on top of removing the DPF guts have made it a brilliant performance car , even sounding great for a deisel .
FINALLY --- my reason for a change in the first place , it will do 33mpg towing and in the low 40's mpg on long fast runs . Local short knocking around --- about 35 mpg.
