a bit belated (but I had a leak in my bathroom and been busy - that's another forum though) had my mot Thusrday - pass with an advisory (gonna need a new flexi pipe on the exhaust soon).

A big thumbs up to Stoneacre Doncaster who did the work. When they returned the car I discovered that they had not only washed the car but cleaned the interior too f.o.c. They even managed to retrieve a pound coin my son had dropped beside the seat last week marvelous - I thought customer service like that had long ago passed away.

They tell me they are regaining the Alfa franchise soon (I never knew they hadn't still got it).

Changed my glow plugs this morning. Went swimmingly well

I've read that they are not meant to kick in until about -5 degrees but that doesn't seem to be the case here. I've been getting a delayed start-up in colder weather (15 degrees and below) and an initial rough idle. All cured!

The old plugs were very black and my dashboard error has also gone.

Gave the GT a wash then took it out to meet its 4C cousin and other family members.
We thoroughly enjoyed the outing.

Dismantled the cigarette lighter socket to find the bulb size as it's always bugged me that it doesn't light up. For reference it is a T5 and if anyone wants one can send you it for the price of a stamp as I managed to get 10 for 99p posted on eBay.

Today (yesterday) I took my 147 Selespeed 2.0TS to the garage and did something that needed to be done badly, removing the red calliper paint from a previous owner. Then she got a nice long wash and wax before a long cruise. God does it go, she is my first Alfa and a gorgeous example at that. Owned by an older lady in the country side she has never really been treated like an Alfa should. I plan to change that. Just an added thing, has anyone ever powder coated or just sprayed their 17" 6 spoke clover rims? Was thinking about going black before a slight lowering and a new exhaust. Thoughts?

Part of what makes the GT a great car is you can go to the tip in it, you've just gotta watch out for those nails that I swear the Tip assistants throw around on the tarmac so they can get commission off the local tyre fitters. I must pick 4 nails/screws up on every visit.

well thanks to this site and alfa workshop among others I have just done the cambelt, waterpump, auxillary belt, tensioners and idlers.

Have a bolt left over for the cambelt cover and, for the life of me, can't find where it goes.

Was a nervous moment turning it over for the first time but seems to be running smoothly.

thanks t3yls, I did go back and forth in my mind about doing it as before the GT it was just the usual top ups that I would have carried out.

Due to the necessity to cut costs I have, in the last three months, done the oil and all the filters, changed all pads and discs and the cambelt etc was the last thing. Without this site and others I don't know that I would have done any of it, so a big thanks to all on it, there is definitley great satisfaction in doing the work.

Love our Alfa and can see us hanging on to this one, can't say I have thought that about any other vehicle we have owned.

Well done mate..credit to you.

I refitted my spacers today using new slightly longer bolts, and checked my new coilover protection jackets were still in place and all present and correct..and they were..

My V6 has had Christmas early, Q2 diff, clutch, while it was out. Clutch master cylinder (floppy peddle), slave cylinder, service, air and pollen filters, front disc skim and pads. That's enough for a while. Had the timing belt done when I bought her. $4000 gone but I still love the thing.

My 6spd v6 had a sloppy shifter - turned out to be a "nice and easy" tighten of the 3 bolts holding the top bracket.

After ramps, blocks, exhaust removal, replacement of the offending bolts, plenty of road dust in my eyes and a sore neck - it feels so much better to drive!

Most things I had read said that component would be cracked and need replacing! Made sure to give it a thorough inspection before putting it back in.

Tomorrow - new air filter, repairs on the intake flex and (please don't throw things at me) investigating chopping the shifter so it's no longer scraping on the roof. The Momo knob sits rather high on it.

My right paddle stopped working yesterday, on investigation I found one of the hinge tabs was broken and the action was sloppy. So I fashioned a repair using a small drill and a piece of wire, total cost 0.00 and 60 mins of my time. I know it looks a bit naff but it works well and can't be seen. I wish all repairs were so cheap.

Changed Offside Drive shaft and Engine mount.

Poor car. The only thing I haven't changed is the shell.
