Point to note. I love Alfa, but its stuff like this thats beyond a joke. Tell me another type of door handle that breaks like this.
VW, you know that massive worldwide car company?
From about 96-2005, most A4, Passat, Superb and I think A6 had a water leak issue. Right ahead of the bulkhead there was a compartment sealed with a second wall.
I suffered with internal cabin leaks on both my Passat and A4. In the Passat:-
It would fill up with rainwater. Once above a certain level the water would seep through a bad seal in the A/C inlet duct and leak into the passenger side front area. Under the carpet there was a comfort module that could if left become water damaged. £800-£1000 for replacement.
The other downside was the inconvenience and stench.
This was similar on my A4 however that leaked to the offside rear. Just a bad smell after a few days.
The fix was to clear out drain holes in the under bonnet compartment on a regular basis. They would clog up with leaf matter and such. The A/C duct had to be removed and sealed. I never had trouble with the 916 Spider or an MX5 for leaks, just two family saloons.
Now the other serious matter was the brake servo which along with the car battery sat in this compartment. I believe there was a reported incident in the US of a seized unit and therefore total loss of braking. VW USA eventually issued a recall, however not so in Europe.
They, it would seem denied the issue. It would make me laugh how folk would slag of Toyota for the issues they had. At least they did not falter with recalls.
Eventually, VAG Europe admitted there was an issue and between the Passat and A4 ownership I received a recall letter.
The fix I was informed from people whom had it done... wait for it... that they would clear out the drain holes for you. Not sure if this was an every six months offer or just a one off.
I think it was pretty low of them to hold back for so long and then offer such a poor remedy
Nothing in the manual about it either..
