Sorry to hear of your trouble neverbuyanalfa. I have a 2001 147 (bought new), and a 2001 156 (bought secondhand), both of which require the bonnet to be dropped from a height of 20cm (or something) in order to shut the bonnet properly. I believe this is mentioned in the handbooks. I can imagine owners would rather shut the bonnet carefully rather than drop it, which is where the problem arises.
We had a letter from Alfa Romeo warning us of the importance of closing the bonnet properly by dropping it, but yes this was only because we had bought an Alfa from a main dealer.
