I have a 1.8 156, that I love to pieces but have noticed that my fuel consumption seems to have risen quite dramatically.
Something that I have also noticed is that the Temp Gauge does not go much over 50 Degrees while the car is driving (I do mostly motorway miles) but when I am sitting in traffic the temp will rise quite quickly and go past 90, to the point where I am worried that it will start to overheat, but fortunately I have always been able to get going again and this has put the temp gauge back to 50.
I dont know if this is part of the problem, but the petrol gauge is also unreliable. If I have 1/2 tank (for example) after around 1/2 an hour of driving the needle will go up to 3/4 tank. Then when I get to the destination and leave the engine to cool down the needle will drop 1/4 tank when the engine is restarted.
This has lead to my being unsure of the amount of petrol I really have. Often the petrol light will come on when I am low, but a few minutes later it will go off again and the needle will move upwards a 1/4 of a tank. Then out of nowhere it will drop dramitically and say there is no petrol left. All this combined with poorer and poorer consumption rates - to put it in perspective I complete 56 miles backwords and forwards to work everyday and 50 of those are motorway, but it is costing £35-40 in fuel, this cant be right?
I have only had the car for 2 1/2 months so have not really noticed a consistent level to compare anything to, but my A6 1.8 Turbo used less fuel per week doing the same drive.
Any help or advice would be very welcome.
(Apart from this I love the car
, its not as powerfull under 2500RPM as the Audi, but the drive down country lanes to the Motorway in the morning in this car is a hoot as it just sticks to the road!)
